Rasam is a very popular South Indian dish or should I say yummy soup 😉 We love to drink it as a soup alone as much as we love to have it with rice too. Garlic pepper rasam is also very good to drink when you are having cold. Well, cold or not, let’s make it and drink it!
Tamarind (seedless) 1 Tbsp (Soak in water and extract pulp)
Garlic cloves ( 5 big) + Black pepper (¾ tsp) + Cumin seeds (¾ tsp) (roughly crushed together)
Mustard seeds 1 tsp
Fenugreek seeds ½ tsp
Green chilli 2 (cut into halves)
Curry leaves 8-10
Coriander powder ½ tsp
Turmeric powder ½ tsp
Asafoetida ¼ tsp
Oil/ Ghee 2 Tbsp
Salt as per taste
- Heat Ghee in a pan. Add rest of the ingredients as below on low flame:
Crackle Mustard seeds → fenugreek seeds → green chilli → crushed garlic paste → curry leaves → coriander powder → turmeric powder → asafoetida → salt
- Saute for 1 minute.
- Add tamarind extract. Turn the flame to high.
- Add 3 glasses of water.
- When it starts to boil wait for 40-45 seconds then turn off the gas.
- Garnish rasam with coriander leaves.
Notes : if you like spicy then you can crush one dry red chilli too with Garlic-pepper.
A note from Author :
The food which is available outside can not be as hygienic and safe as you can prepare it at home with love for your kids and family but at the same time the truth is that cooking becomes very tiring when you do it daily. So as much as I love to cook food myself for my family, I like to keep the recipe very short and simple yet the taste is amazing. This saves my time and gives me satisfaction too. Here I am sharing my recipes with you. Please try them out and let me know. Don’t forget to rate the recipe below. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.
